Forestry resources with tremendous ecological and economic value is very precious in fragile eco-environment of western region. But the scale of forestry resources decreases rapidly with economic development in west. How to promote sustainable development of forestry is a key problem in ecological-economic reconstruction in west China. This paper intends to find the answer using some theories and methods of Regional Economics, Development Economics, Synergetics, Ecological Economics and Environmental Economics.The paper analyses the movement of the forestry resources' utilization rate and natural regeneration rate in western China; discusses different patterns of forestry resources utilization in different periods using some ideas of synergetics; finally,points out the key point of sustainable development in west forestry -- thetransformation from traditional pattern to synergetic-bidirectional pattern of resources utilization, with gradual weakening of government's power, strengthening of social systems' power and effective foundation of synergetic institution. The paper discusses some important issues such as the reform of forestry property right system, the practice of community co-management, the foundation of ecological compensation mechanism in forestry and the development of forestry industry; then puts forward some policy suggestions concerned.
