The Ecological Footprints Analysis has been applied all over the world, when it put forward by Rees & Wackernagel etal in 1992. Many domestic scholars had applid this method to coutry and area except villiages and towns in recent years. This paper introduced basic concept and methodology of the Ecological Footprints Analysis, and the author programed the computer to count ecological footprints with the VB software. The paper pointed out the problems in making use of the compound-based model. The author attempted to afford settlements to revise the compound-based model. The green house gas with footprints accounts and the differences of ecological productivity with capacity accounts were included in the revising. The author counted the ecological footprints of four villages and towns in Yangzhou city with the Ecological Footprints Analysis in 2003. The paper compared the differences the results of ecological footprints between the areas and the four villages and towns, and the results of two methods. With the results of the revised compound-based model, the paper evaluated the utilizations of water and soil resources of four villiages and towns in the indexes of the Ecological Footprints Analysis.Through above calculation and analysis, the paper got following meaningful conclusions.(1) The Ecological Footprints Analysis is a tool to evaluate the level of sustainable development with comparing of supplys and consumptions of the resources. But the indexes of ecological remainders of a rural area are not to be compared with the indexes of city.(2) The progremme is propitious to reduce the workload of the ecological footprints analyzing.(3) The utilizations of water and soil resources are reasonabl or not will influence the resuls of the evaluation. The measures of enlarging ecological remainders are improving the ecological capacities and reducing the consumpations in reason.
