Research On The Thoughts Of Scientific Development Pattern Based On Quine’s Holism

The problem on the scientific development pattern in the study of westernphilosophy of science has been in the core position. However, numerous relativetheories competed fiercely in their own ways. Therefore, researchers were difficult tosort out systematic threads clearly, and they could not draw any conclusions whichcan be highly recognized. Especially for researchers who started late in China, usinga more appropriate philosophy perspective to reframe research thought on such aproblem of western scientific philosophy and then to draw a more structured,systematic and deeper interpretation has undoubtedly important theoreticalsignificance. At the same time, at present, people have fully noticed that the rapiddevelopment of science has brought us more and more serious negative impacts. Tomaster the regularity, the inner mechanism and basic characteristics throughresearching the scientific development pattern has increasingly important practicalmeaning, too.This paper using Quine’s thought of meaning Holism which is relevant to thescientific development pattern problem in analytic philosophy aims to analyze andstudy relative core thoughts in scientific development pattern again. It excavates thephilosophy origin which are generated from historicism and relativism, and analyzeshow Larry Laudan avoided relativism difficulties and cracked the rationality of theprogress of scientific development. Finally, it concludes that various theories ofscientific development pattern on western philosophy of science are not parallel orthe opposite, but complemented and consistent. Each major theory can be concludedinto three consistent development stages. Among them, the stage which focuses thejudgment of experience defines the form of scientific development as theaccumulation of conventional phase and the gradual type of the revolutionary phase.The stage which focuses the transformation of theories makes clear that the mainbody of scientific development is the general transformation of theories. The stage which pays attention to guide the practical ability, finds that the research of thisproblem needs to find the value of scientific development, and the defects of eachtheories directly lead the research to the next stage of the evolution.According to the inspiration of researches, this paper further puts forward thatresearch on the development pattern should be combined with features andadvantages of various theories existed in different branches, such as logical thinking,the focusing on factors from non-science as well as on the scientific practice, toexplore more complete theories. The problem itself is a living subject which canbreak through its own limits endlessly. The research on it can not stay in a system. Itneeds observations and the progress of every system. Moreover, in the process of thescientific theories we can not ignore the research how scientific problems graduallydeveloped. Finally, it proposes that we should focus the latest achievements of themain philosophy, and get thinking basis from them. At the same time, it attaches theimportance to the use of speculative methods and characteristics of scientific practiceactivities, and fully absorbs the advantages of the predecessors’ theories.
