Great achievement of agriculture in city countryside has been gained in developed cities such as Shanghai etc. in recent years, which has remarkable effects on promoting city image, improving ecological environment, enhancing the blend of urban and rural area and raising the quality of living. The GDP per-person has been over 5,000 dollars in Shanghai during the process of building an international metropolis and ecological city, and scaled a new height. Following the economic development and the expanding of city scale, some developed cities have had conditions of relying on metropolis and around the general ideas of developing city so as to regulate the development of agriculture, make support policy of agriculture, strength the protection of agriculture and accelerate the development of agriculture in city countryside. The development of agriculture in city countryside has been in a situation of unparalleled change. After all agriculture is an inferior trade and the agriculture in city countryside in Shanghai has been in a preliminary developing Stage, so the development of agriculture in city countryside needs the support of policies and protection of measures. Following the continual expanding of opening to the outside world, especially after acceding to WTO, the agriculture of China has been faced with great impacts and challenges from outside world. The newly arose problems and manifested characteristics of agriculture in city countryside are worth being discussed under this situation. It is an important project to be examined of how to promoting the construction of agriculture in city countryside healthily, stably and sequentially in order to maintain a real sustainable development of agriculture.The relation between agriculture in city countryside and sustainable development was elaborated and the protective practice and support strength of agriculture from home and abroad were analyzed in this paper based on the functions of agriculture in city countryside. By taking Shanghai as an example, from the demands of developing agriculture in city countryside and promoting sustainable development of agriculture, the problems of the development of agriculture in city countryside in Shanghai was investigated and analyzed, such as the insufficient protective policy, the impairment ofthe interests of the peasants who lost the fields, the inadequate of agricultural standardization and training of peasants. The countermeasures and paths of the protection of agriculture in city countryside were discussed on the theme of agricultural protection according to the ideas of sustainable development of agriculture and from the respects of economic structure, energetically developing the agriculture with high quality, high quantity, high efficiency, ecology and safety, improving the quality and competitive strength of agricultural products and promoting the industrial construction of superior farm products and industrial management of agriculture, by facing the opportunities and prospects of the process of developing agriculture in city countryside in Shanghai. The countermeasures and proposals that intended to be adopted currently for promoting the development of agriculture in city countryside under new situation were put forward: 1. Setting up stable and enduring effective agricultural support policies for protecting and supporting agriculture. 2. Protecting the real interests of the peasants who lost the fields. 3. Raising the market competitive strength of agricultural products by outfits of sciences and technology. 4. Raising the comprehensive qualities of peasants by enhancing the training. 5. Sturdily promoting the construction of agriculture in city countryside by learning from advanced experiences and models.
