Doctoral dissertation, an important achievement of doctoral education, represents the quality of doctoral education. It not only fully reflects the doctor's knowledge base,scientific research capacity, academic level and attitude toward research,but also reveals the development of related subjects.Based on the recent ten years'doctoral dissertations on higher education and biblometric methods, this thesis explores the changes of the research topics and the application status of research methods in the dissertations, revels the features and problems of doctoral dissertations.This thesis aims to improve teaching and training work of doctor and provide some references.The thesis applies bibliometric methods to analyze the distribution of 258 doctoral dissertation research topics and research methods, including the time distribution, schools distribution, as well as cross-distribution of research topics and methods.From the analysis, this thesis exposes some features in these dissertations,such as they are basic, applied, multidisciplinary and so on. At the same time, it reveals some defects which includes the irregular use of research methods and poor design quality of the methods.This paper argues that thses problems caused by external factors and internal factors.The external factors including the geographic location of doctor's degree programs and the current mode of doctoral education, the internal factors including doctoral students'limitation on basic knowledge, research skills and research time.
