The router based on ForCES (Forwarding and Control Element Separation), proposed by ForCES working group of Internet Engineering Task Force in routing area, meets the open, flexible and programmable demands of the next generation networks. This thesis researches inter-FE packet transmission mechanism, and analyzes several key technologies in the implementation, such as:Architecture design of inter-FE packet transmission related, the technology of inter-FE topology discovery and Inter-FE service packet transmission LFB related modeling, etc.Firstly, we research the ForCES architecture, particularly describe the modular LFB-based features, and then proposed the requirements and implementation framework of inter-FE packet transmission. Secondly, we study the preliminary phase work for inter-FE packet transmission, including inter-FE topology discovery and maintenance, route management and internal channel flow control. Thirdly, researches the concrete methods of inter-FE packet transmission realization, focusing on the key modules in inter-FE packet process. Finally, experiment results show the feasibility and effectiveness of the implementation part.The main work of this thesis has provided reference examples for ForCES router extensions, meanwhile forecasts prospects for ForCES router applications.
