With the development of information technology, DSP technology has been widely used in video signal processing field. Owing to video processing systems dispending video equipments correspondingly, it is necessary for the video equipment to design a driver program which can provide a unified interface for the high-level application operating the underlying hardware.The driver which is designed and achieved for the video capture and display underlying device driver of DM6437 video processing system in the DSPC6000 environment based on the hardware exploiting platform which is created by the DaVinci technology TDS6437EVM in this paper, using the class/mini-driver architecture advanced by the TI, chose the GIO/FVID driver model experting in the video equipment via comparing several class drivers, registering mini-driver using DSP/BIOS, setting the TVP5146 register and configuring the main 3 registers (CCDC, OSD, VENC) in VPSS. Following the same driver interface, it has a good versatility and probability while running on different hardware platform. In the driver design, the method of video equipment parameter configuration and the driver program model to the similar video processing driver development have well used for reference.Applying the API provided by the Codec Engine of the DaVinci technology system to control and use the H.264 encoder/decoder, it can compress the real-time video date to 3/11 of the original one at best and get a high ratio of compression which would save a lot of costs for the video storage and transmission.
