MANET(Mobile Ad Hoc Network) is a kind of wireless network without fixed network infrastructure thus has a wide prospective in both military and civilian applications. MANET can be constructed through a flat or a hierarchical structure in which the later one is essential for achieving a basic performance guarantee in large-scale MANET for its scalability. Consequently many clustering schemes have been proposed for the hierarchical architecture. But few of them has taken security into account while assuming that there is no malicious nodes or actions in the clustering environment.MANET is a self-organizing system and the mobile nodes are characteristic of agent features. Based on theses notions, this thesis focuses on the research of the self-organizing secure clustering scheme and contributes mainly on the following aspects.1. Modeling a mobile node as a BDI architecture based on the agent theory and analysis on the related algorithms including The-Second algorithm and Switch-Head algorithm;2. Designing a new clustering scheme--BSS(BDI-based Self-organizing Secure Clustering Scheme) based on the BDI model of the mobile nodes;3. Analysis on the security of the WCA scheme and BSS scheme by introducing the colored Petri net theory;4. Simulating the BSS scheme and other popular clustering schemes based on the NS2 platform, comparing their performance and security, and reaching the result that BSS scheme has a better security without cost of performance.Products in this thesis have been applied in a project fund by the NSF (National Natural Science Foundation) and provide effective solution for secure clustering in the MANET.
