With the Continuous development of various aspects of LingShan Company's business, more and more information application systems have been applied to dealing with various types of business. Various application systems contain large number of business data, which not only is foundation of company's business normal operation, but also is very important resource for companies to develop. However, due to human factors, computer hardware disaster and software failures, virus, etc. will result in the loss of data, resulting in significant losses. How to effectively protect data has become an urgent need to resolve.The paper introduces the basic theory and common technology in data backup and server storage system. And analysis of the current network environment, data and storage's conditions, data backup situations and requirements, expatiate the drawbacks of data backup in detail. In response to these drawbacks with the existing IT environment together with data backup and archiving requirements of application systems. This paper presents a project of centralized data backup. The project based on the LAN-Base backup topology, with a flexible framework, without changing the network architecture, take full advantage of the backbone network resources, high compatibility with existing storage systems. This Project combined with Symantec Backup Exec backup software, uses a server as media server. Media server simultaneously connects the disk and tape backup device, disk array as near-line backup device for day-to-day backup, tape as offline backup device for data archiving and data retention of the long-term. In this Project, disk array as the main backup media device, take full advantage of disk array's characteristics which has high rate of reading and writing and permits the multi-work concurrent execution. During the backup and restore process, the main network affected by the shorter. And using the disk array Raid protection mechanism increased the backup data reliability. The project simultaneously uses the tape as offline backup media device, take full advantage of tape's features which can off-site storage and has unlimited backup capacity, improve data security and offline data archiving to meet demand. The project established IPSEC security policy which isolates unauthorized access of media server. With the traditional single-use tape backup media device project compared. The project synthesizes the disk and the tape's merit. Thus avoiding there's disadvantage.Through the porject implementation, which has realized each application system online automation data backup and the data storage centralization lamination management, on the whole eliminates the potential loss of data, greatly improving the data reliability and security, while improving the system efficiency and to meet future business development and expansion of the system.
