With the continuously upgrading of the multimedia processor chip and the sophisticating of the windows image processing technology, the video monitoring technology has been developing continuously towards the aspect of diversification and flexibility. In this paper, I synthesize both video capture technology of PC-based and DSP-based, learn from each other, and then design a multi-picture video monitoring system. The main function of this system is to preview real-time four-channel video picture in PC monitoring client and store the compression video data to local PC. This system is based on a general video capture card and uses DirectX technology for four-channel real-time video previewing, uses the DSP compressing technology for compressing video data then transmisses them to local PC client. There are several advantages such as shorter development cycle, easier maintenance and upgrade. Also there're economic benefits for enterprises and institutions with the needs of product development requirements.The system refers to DSP technology, digital image processing technologies, Windows DirectX technology, video codec technology, and Windows programming technology.Firstly, with synthesizing the existing technology and the practical needs of the customer, designed a whole aiming system. The system platform is based on TI's multimedia processor chip DM642, which is rich in programmable video interfaces based on a combination of both TI's video decoder chip of TVP5150AM1, to achieve the purpose of multi-channel video capturing.And then with providing a driver model based on the TI Class-driver/Mini-driver model, design the platform for video capture video capture driver.Secondly, on the aspect of PC client, video monitoring, with analysising the digital image signal through the video data transport stream, use the Windows DirectX SDK based on COM-interface technology for DirectDraw to achieve the goal of four-channel real-time video preview, meanwhile , use the MFC technology to design the compressing data output in the environment of local PC. As the core of DirectX technology, DirectDraw can accelerate the hardware and software graphics&animation for real-time processing techniques, although the main field application of DirectX is the game area. But in this system, an effective and feasible method is provided to realize the software layer of real-time preview in multi-picture video monitoring, using the advantages of the graphics processing function and the device-independent feature.This system includes features of practicality and scalability, and can provide a good cost-effective project for industrial video monitoring application.
