Arbitrary Waveform Generator is a kind of commonly used signal source with wide application in the field of communications, radar, navigation, and other modern electronic field. The core of Signal Generater is frequency synthesisor, the main methods are: direct analog frequency synthesis, PLL frequency synthesizer(PLL). direct digital synthesis (DDS). DDS is an open-loop system without feedback, its frequency synthesis speed and frequency stability are very high. So DDS (direct digital synthesis) technology is one of the main techniques to generate signals with relatively large bandwidth, fast phase agility, fine precision and continuous phase.Thesis introduces a method to develop a high precise DDS signal source based on LabVIEW and SOPC.Thesis introduces the basic theories of virtual instrument technology, including the concept, composition, classification. On the basis of this, the thesis introduces the software structure of virtual instrument system and briefly introduces the relevant technology, such as instrument driver, VISA, etc.SOPC technology has thoroughly been studied.SOPC is a reconstructable system on a chip based on the programmable logic device, and it combines the advantages of SOC and PLD/FPGA as the integrated technology of them. It integrates the hardware or software CPU,DSP,PLL,storage,I/O interface and programmable logic, it can solve the SOC scheme flexibly and effectively. what is more, it has a short design cycle and low cost. As a result it fits the application fields of the design very much. The thesis analyse the design scheme and the principle of the DDS. The Direct Digital Frequeney Synthesis (DDS) is a kind of new frequency synthesis method. Analyses the spectrum characteristic of direct digital frequency synthesizer output. It is of high frequeney resolution, fast frequency switching speed. The entire signal generator system is integrated into a SOPC with only one FPGA chip.Thesis designs hardware and software of the Arbitrary Waveform Generator. The thesis formulates the whole scheme of the system and analyses the reason of using DDS technology. It described the design process of the hardware circuit of whole system, the system on SOPC and the PC software thoroughly. In addition, the thesis analyses the relevant technology and control method of AWG. The system is made up two parts, PC software and firmware of Arbitrary Waveform Generator, communicating with UART. The data of arbitrary waveforms is edited and downloaded by PC software. This design intergrated the DDS module and the MCU module on a single FPGA chip.So the performance such as integration, stability and expansibility improved much, Testing by the way of simulation and the result, the export waveform has achieved the ideal result.
