Dazhong was a monthly journal which based solely on popular literature in 1940's Shanghai. From December 1941 to August 1945, Shanghai was occupied by Japanese. During this period of time, the Japanese militarism controlled the culture and publication in Shanghai. For that reason, Dazhong had to declare that it would focus on daily life and perpetual humanity, politics and romance would be excluded from Dazhong. In the area of contemporary Chinese literature journal research, Dazhong is famous for its foreword in the first periodical, which is often quoted as an example. But Dazhong itself was beyond the further research because of its popular literature character or other reasons.The first chapter of this thesis is the overall profile of the introduction, focusing on the introduction of its founding, as well as the editor, the author, the relationship between the readers. The second chapter is mainly on its editorial stance on the concept and literature. The third chapter focus on the humanity, the reality of politics, and the romance story, unifies the specific works to elaborate the magazine's unique merit, which are of the most value to Dazhong. Chapter IV will attempt to put Dazhong in the historical time and space, and in order to grasp the new changes in popular literature. From all of these, the author attempts to draw a conclusion that Dazhong was one of the most important journals during the occupied Shanghai period.
