In a radar system, antenna of the radar must be driven to rotate in order to obtain target information through target searching and acquisition. Subject of the paper is to introduce design of the radar antenna drive control.Based on consideration to weight and reliability of the drive control in the radar system, brushless DC motor(BLDCM) is selected as the execution mechanism; and design of the control scheme based on BLDCM is presented. Basic composition, operation principle and mathematical model of BLDCM as well as control system with double closed-loops BLDCM are introduced. Through applying analog and digital control design schemes respectively to BLDCM in practical engineering design, a digital drive control system based on digital signal processor (DSP) is developed, and miniaturization of system hardware circuit is achieved and power consumption of the system is decreased.During practical application of the radar system, the digital drive control scheme based on DSP can meet requirements to all specifications, and it has successfully passed the verification test. This digital control scheme has wide application potential, not only in radar system, but also can be used in other drive control equipments.
