As an "information bridge" between the plan layer and control layer, MES (Manufacturing Execution System) plays an important role in solving the "information gap" between enterprise management systems and automation systems, and receives extensive attention. As a real-time data collection and information exchange platform, MES terminal has abviours domain features. Meanwhile, with the development of embedded technology, embedded Linux system becomes more widely available, and the study and development of Linux platform for specific domains has become a trend. Double driven by the demand and technology, study and realization of MES terminal-oriented embedded Linux platform has been of important academic and application value. In this paper, a non-royalty restriction and open-source Linux kernel is introduced, and the status and trends of level architecture and domains-oriented of embedded Linux is analyzed. Through the study of the MES terminal'domain features and hardware structure, we design an embedded Linux platform MT-Linux orienting to MES terminal, the MT-Linux architecture is brought forward and the essential technology is studied. In the aspects of building MT-Linux platform, the development tools, bootloader, kernel, file system, device drivers and API are studied and realized, particularly in the aspects of MT-Linux transplantation and reduction. Moreover, the multi-file system structure of cramfs as root file system, JFFS2/YAFFS as expansion file system, ramfs as memory file system is also designed to meet the need of MES terminal. On this basis, the MT-Linux platform is carried out.To optimizing the system, the technology of quick start, boot characters display and dynamic expansion is studied, and the corresponding MT-Linux Optimization methods is proposed and implemented. Finally, the MT-Linux platform is tested on the S3C2410-based MES terminal. The results demonstrats that only with the accordingly platform architecture planning, storage space planning, and the simple bootloader transplant, kernel customization, the embedded Linux software platform can be finished. Consequently, the development of MES terminal is speeded up.
