At present, the capacity of DVD has been unable to meet the requirement of watching HDTV programming (1920 x 1080). Currently, on account of its high prices and huge difficulty of changing product line, the Blu-ray Disc can not take on the large burden immediately. Meanwhile, the disputes of DVD patent also prove that we must design and develop independent intellectual proprietary data format to meet the requirements of the new red-ray high-density optical discsAccording to the characteristics of high-density optical disc, to improve the data format encoding method, including the design of data frames, user sector, ECC block, ECC cluster and recording frames, and the research on ECC block and ECC cluster is the most important part of the whole design.Different from DVD, the data will be divided into two parts, one is the control data, and the other is user data. Then, the two types of data will separately enter into two RS encoders, through which we can achieve the practical error correction performance and enhance the coding efficiency simultaneously. With the rapid incremental data density, high-density disc must firstly resolve large-scale burst errors problem, and we designs a new interleaving arithmetic to solve it.As a new data format, its performance must be tested first, which includes the testing of coding efficiency and error corrected capability. The new data format has a higher coding efficiency than DVD's (90.5%, and DVD is 86.6%), and its error corrected capability includes the burst error corrected capability and random error corrected capability. The simulation shows the new data format has a good error corrected capability: its highest burst error corrected capability is up to 2838~2880 ECC bytes, and after correcting data which added random error, and its original error rate is10-3, the error rate could be reduce to 10-8.Analysis indicates that data format encoding method, with independent intellectual property right, is fit for next generation versatile disc. Compared with DVD, it has higher coding efficiency and stronger burst error corrected capability.
