Along with the development of Industry Automatization in our country, Machine Vision system as "the eye" of the automated equipment has been more and more applied to the semiconductor, the electron, the automobile, coinage, packing and so on. Because it can greatly enhance the flexibility and the automaticity of manufacture, the Machine Vision technology will certainly be used in large scale. The picture capturing unit is the important part of the Machine Vision system. As obtaining clear and high precision image data may reduce the difficulty in the development of image algorithm,and simultaneously reduce the system's dependence to the photosource, therefore designing high performance picture capturing module is very important to the vision system.This article first introduced the smart camera system which adopts TI multimedia chip TMS320DM642 as main processor. Then earnestly considered DM642's high performance and its rich peripheral hardware interface,emphatically studied the DM642's video port, EDMA transmission mechanism, the Cache structure, the I2C module, the GPIO connection as well as driver development based on the TI real-time OS DSP/BIOS. Meanwhile studied the work principle and the data output of CCD and CMOS image sensor which were widely used at present. Then choosed Micron CMOS image sensor MT9V022, realized its hardware schematic diagram design and driver development. Finally studied the plan of using video decoder and CCD image sensor, then selected TI decoder TVP5150 and using a CCD vidicon as input source for test, after actually test this plan conformed to the requirement, and was ready for the further product development.Finally, the paper put some proposals for the amelioration of the camera system, then forecasted the development and the application prospect of image capturing and processing system based on the DM642 for the future.
