The Series Active Power Filter is an equipment by using serise connection of the source and the non-linear load for regulating the electric energy quality. It can compensate the harmonic that product by the type of voltage devices. Additionally, Series Active Power Filter is a new power electronics device used to dynamically clearing up harmonic and improving power factor. Moreover, the compensation performance is not affected by the impedance of power system, it has many advantages such as, fast response, high controllability and adaptability, etc. Therefore, The Series Active Power Filter is the developing direction of Active Power Filter. This paper analyse the methods of detection and controling, and the optimal design on parameter also have discussed.The ability of harmonic voltage detection is the basis of the compensation.In this paper, we first introduce some methods in the past, and then analyze instantaneous reactive power in detail, then we deduce the mothods of synthesizing detection that base on the instantaneous reactive power and give the simulation model of the two methods.How to control the PWM in order to bring the compensation voltage is also important.Then the mathematic model of series active power filter is established. Based on the model, the two closed loops control strategy is deduced. The simulation results show that the effect is good. By detecting the instantaneous voltage and the instantaneous current across the passive power filter as the reference signal of the APF, the compensation performance of the series APF is very obvious, also has nicer adaptability of load and anti-jamming. The experimental emulator in Matlab verifies the compensation performance of the series active power filter.According to the actual pollution status and analyze in theory, put the OF in a proper position, use the appropriate material. Optimize the parameters in DC-side voltage,DC-side capacitance and the capacitance and inductance in output filter are decided.Simulation is carried out using Matlab,it includes the DC-side voltage, compensation voltage, load voltage and source current. The simulation results verify that this APF has excellent compensating capability.
