As soon as the Dunhuang Manuscripts were discovered, the academician studied all kinds of the Dunhuang Manuscripts and published many articles. Dunhuang Encyclopedia books plays important role in Chinese ancient history. We can know deep Chinese culture and the development of Chinese ancient books by studying the Dunhuang Encyclopedia manuscripts.During last century's 30's, Liu Shipei,Luo Zhenyu,Wang Guowei did elementary research, then Wang Zhongmin's work "Descriptive Catalog of the Dunhuang Ancient books" included Dunhuang Encyclopedia. Many Japanese scholars also made much progress.Some outstanding scholars appeared in Taiwan, especially Wang Sanqing's work "Dunhuang Encyclopedia" gave us much information. Afterwards although Dunhuang photocopies are announced unceasing and the research condition improves constantly, and also many achievements of Dunhuang Encyclopedia manuscripts' studies were published, no comprehensive introduction and summary appeared, this has seriously restricted the progress of Dunhuang study and affected the development of Dunhuang Encyclopedia's research. Many delay and repeated research have been happened and even wrong conclusions identified by academe are quoted.According to the 190 copies found in the Mogao Cave and 200 articles written by scholars of different countries since 100 years ago,the author wrote the descriptive catalog for every manuscripts after careful studies. The descriptive catalog contains the following content:1, Name of the manuscripts.2, Introduce the beginning and ending of each manuscript, the quantity of lines. And mark its beginning and ending pages' and lines' quantity in their popular version.3, Cohere the manuscripts with broken parts.4, Study the transcript time of the manuscript.5, Give example of valued and creative reseach,evaluated and correct wrong statements.6, Give publishes information of this manuscript such as the published volume amount and range of pages in photocopies and transcripts.7, List the related work which has not been mentioned in the catalog text.
