The wheeled mobile robot has been widely applied in many fields. However, because of the flexibility of the wheeled mobile robot, it is inconvenient to control it using traditional method. In order to obtain the running status of the robot and control the robot wirelessly, we have to get rid of the line, so wireless communication is used to get the sensors' data and transfer control command.Based on the requirement of remote monitoring and control of the wheeled mobile robot, the study of this paper focuses on the wireless communication and remote monitor of the mobile robot.Secondary development of the PMAC, the contronller of wheeled mobile robot, is discussed on detail with its function library, PComm32. Then, this paper develops the remote monitoring and control system of the wheeled mobile robot under the environment of Visual C++6.0 based on the 802.11b wireless communication technology. The system is in the mode of supervision control, and chooses TCP protocol as the final protocol. On this basis, this paper tests the reliability and distance of the wireless haredware platform, and it turns out that the wireless signal seems good in the lab. In order to take down the status data of the robot, OBDC and ACCESS2003 have been used in the system software. The result of the test indicates that the remote monitoring and control system of the wheeled mobile robot can obtain the sensors' data realtimely and correctly in the whole lab. All the function modules operate normally. The system software realizes the remote monitoring and control and achieves the desired results.
