With the development of information technology, database has been applied widely, which attracts more and more people attention to research deeply on it. As we know, database has many research fields. Data encryption is one of important research subject in those fields. Deeply researching on this subject has most important theoretical value and application value. In this thesis, a new encryption based on analyzing and summarizing some classic block algorithms was proposed.Firstly, by investigating encryption and decryption, security, secret-key, encryption efficiency and implementation of three classical encryption algorithms RC5, RC6 and IDEA, a new algorithm of database encryption was put forward.Secondly, a new block encryption algorithm, RC-I, was put forward by improving the nonlinear function, four registers input and output rotation amounts of the RC6. Comparing RC-I with RC5 and RC6 from five aspects: the efficiency of encryption and decryption, the conciseness, the expansibility, the efficiency of execution and the security, the experimental results indicated that RC-I algorithm enhances the garble speed, speeds up the avalanche and diffusion, and strengths the resistant ability. It also can speed up the char and number of encryption and decryption in database.Finally, we implement RC-I algorithm in geology drilling database. The experimental result indicates that RC-I has best performance in encryption and high intensity. It not only satisfies the demand of database's security, but also is easy to realized. Therefore it has better practicability and wider application range.
