Along with economic development and the improvement of the level of urbanization, urban transportation is becoming an increasingly serious problem, in the face of economic development and urban transport development needs, it becomes more critical to improve transport efficiency of the transport system and reduce the social and environmental impacts. Therefore, it becomes more and more important in the study of intelligent traffic signal control technology.Because of the important role of traffic system and its particularity, it is not suitable to the research of traffic signal control technology and algorithm in the field; and computer simulation method is generally used now. Based on the analysis of the existing methods and simulation technology at home and abroad, against the defects of traditional simulation methods in traffic signal control system, at the same time in order to provide an experimental platform for studying and testing new traffic signals control algorithm, a semi-physical simulation platform solution was proposed in this dissertation, which was constituted of the prototype machine of traffic signals controller and the simulation system of intersection scene on PC. Among them, the prototype machine using ARM and embedded Linux operating system solution, running traffic signal control algorithm, producing control signal; the simulation system of intersection scene is designed using Visual Basic6.0, providing the virtual intersection scene, it is controlled by the control signals which prototype machine is producing, and provides the necessary sensor data to the prototype machine. By connecting these two parts through the COM, the platform achieves hardware-in-the-loop simulation, which is semi-physical simulation.The core of this dissertation is consists of two parts: the prototype machine of traffic signal controller and the simulation PC. First, using development board ST2410 as a main control board, combined with signal light-drive board, it achieves the basic hardware platform of prototype machine. On this basis, through the transplant of embedded Linux kernel, the development of related device driver and the preparation of the upper application software, the design of the prototype software were completed. Secondly, the basic theory of traffic simulation and the micro-simulation model of traffic flow were introduced in the part of PC simulation system, and on the basis of this structure, a simple cross intersection scene was established. At last, the protocol for COM communication which contacts these two parts was designed in detail, and the function of the platform was finally test and verified.
