To reduce traffic accidents and drive safely are always one of the important problems for traffic engineers. Traffic accidents are caused by several reasons. The weather is an important factor. In the low visibility condition, such as fog, rain, snow, dust and so on, the visibility of road environment system becomes fuzzy. The driver can't get enough enviroment information because of the illusion caused by road line shape (curve, ramp), running speed and space. So traffic accidents, such as crash and rushing out of the road will probably happen.The purpose of Automobile Safety Assistance Driving System research is to help the driver be able to identify road situation information in poor condition and drive safely. At present, acquisition technology of road environment information is one of the hotspot study field in Automobile Safety Assistance Driving System, the technology of vision perception based on machine vision becomes the mainly method for acquisition information. Under foggy condition, in order to improving the visibility, the system could understand road environment through machine vision, collect road information.The paper is based on function analysis of the information collection system of driver anterior environment under foggy condition. According to different environment the system chooses suitable sensory equipment and modern high technology such as computer technology, sensory technology and data processing technology, studies the information collection system of driver anterior environment. The system experiment platform is made up of vehicle and assistant subsystem, image collection subsystem, distance and location subsystem, vehicle state information collection subsystem, every subsystem are designed and every subsystem data collecting principle are analyzed. Finally, the software module function of every subsystem is accomplished based on system software function analysis. The main research is as follows:The paper puts forward the design of information collection system based on foggy condition by using equipment such as CCD camera, photoelectric encoder, GPS, inertial measurement unit and vehicle-borne computer, the system hardware platform is builded and software modules relatively are designed. The image information and data of other sensors are processed, including that the image being image enhancement, getting the comparatively clear image; the data form inertial measurement unit being processed by Kalman Filter. The experiment shows that the Kalman filter is effective comparatively to do away with noise. The research of paper could provide something valuable for developing Automobile Safety Assistance Driving System in the future with the vision enhancement function in low visibility.
