With the fast development of digital technology, digital video surveillance has been increasingly focused, and consumers also have higher requirements to the digital video recorders (DVR), such as image quality , coding efficiency, cost control, and so on. This paper reviews the history of the development of video surveillance, introduces the development trend and discusses DaVinci DSP based DVR system hardware design process in detail, including system requirements analysis, the whole architecture design, the schematic design of functional unit, PCB simulation and system debugging. In order to meet market's demands to the DVR system now, this design aim to develop a high cost performance DVR system based on TI DaVinci DSP TMS320DM643x, IDT's 79 RC32K438 embedded processors and some other peripheral devices.Based on the analysis of the DVR market's demands and its own features, the design determines the system's hardware architecture. The system is mainly including functions of video codec, hard disk storage, network transmission and some other functions such as audio input and output, USB2.0, VGA output, RS232, RS485, DIDO and so on. This paper also gives description of IDT embedded processor & TI DaVinci DSP, discusses details on the interface of DSP and processor, processor and other peripheral devices. The full paper is divided into five chapters:Chapter 1 gives a general description about the subject design of DVR system ,define the subjects and tasks.Chapter2 discusses functional specification definition and general structure design.Chapter 3 discusses the schematic design.Chapter 4 discusses PCB layout, simulation and system debugging.Chapter 5 summarizes the work and the technical trend.
