As a new optical switching technology, OBS combines the advantages of OCS and OPS and has the granularity between OCS and OPS. It has been an effective solution for IP over DWDM technology. The research of the experimental platform is a key part which decides whether we can implement OBS.In the current domestic and international study, the core node and the edge node of the OBS experimental platform tend to be implemented by the flexible, low-cost FPGA (field programmable gate array). To satisfy the requirements of processing speed at the core node, and the burst transferring and receiving at the edge node, this paper proposed and implemented an FPGA-based platform for OBS with multiple networking-interfaces.First of all, this paper describes the background and the network structure of OBS, as well as current domestic and international experimental platform.Secondly, the requirements of the OBS core node and edge node are analyzed and a system framework is provided, which includes the FPGA board and the multiple networking interface board based on the IO expansion. Then the paper focuses on FPGA-based system-on-chip design and implementation, including on-chip processor NiosII built by the SOPC technology, a self-designed integrated PHY module, and the MAC layer module with its driver. Finally, we tested and verified the platform in 4 aspects: The low level driver is designed to test the physical layer of the platform. The platform with 3 networking interfaces is implemented and verified based onμC/OSII and LwIP. The platform is further verified with the OBS core node control software. The applications of the platform in related OBS research, including core node and edge node implementation, verify the practicability of the platform again.
