China is in an age of great social reform, substantial changes lead to a restructure of Chinese Media Industries and print media is inevitably impacted. Print media industry then stepped into a transmutation period. This paper attempt to demonstrate a panoramic picture of the print media transmutation by exploring into the complicated causes of the media restructuring background and an in-depth analyze through the rise and decline in the transmutation course.Societal changes, new communication technology, globalization and media system reforms are the most momentous backgrounds that changed the media environment as a whole and promoted the print media transmutation. Researches in this paper mainly focus on three major aspects of the print media transmutation that are most representative: print media itself, print media audiences and print media function.The beginning chapter of this paper starts with a description of the four great backgrounds and probes into the relation between environmental changes and the transmutations of print medium, its audiences and its function. The second chapter concentrates on the changes in quantity, makeup and form of the print media. The following chapter three discusses over the audiences'needs and wants changes and the diffluent phenomenon on print media in the new media environment. The final chapter penetrates into the organic changes in print media function scheme and gives out some constructive suggestion on how to take the transmutation opportunity and better realize the print media value.
