During the process of informationization, every department of public security has established its own application system. As different departments are independent from each other, these application systems are not designed under unified standards. As a result, there exist some"isolated islands of information"in these application systems, which are heterogeneous ,unshared and separated from each other. In order to share the resources from these systems, it is necessary to integrate these systems and solve the problem of"isolated islands of information".This paper begins at the heterogeneous date status of public security field, discusses the problems, strategies and technologies of heterogeneous date integration. Then the paper proposes an overall solution to the integration problem of heterogeneous data resources. We use XML documents as exchanging media for public security heterogeneous date resources and design a XML-based framework of public security heterogeneous date integration platform. The platform frame is based on typical Wrapper-Mediator system structure, adopts the method of virtual view and depicts local data-resource view in XML in which each system local specification is hided and platform transparency is improved. The use of a powerful universal XML query language-- XQuery makes it possible to query XML global and local view in a uniform way based on a standard interface. These methods make the system loosely coupled, agile and easily expansible. These characteristics can make data integration seamless. The paper focuses on the mapping mechanism between XML and relational database. Finally, this paper gives a summary and proposes future research directions.
