Media events are one kind of mass communication phenomenon. They are live reports on significant events planed ahead that have the newsworthy through all the media focusing. They are the historical events presented on media synchronization. They are one kind of media ceremony with mysterious communication effect.Media events narrate the events that occur in chronological order. They are story-telling styles,so they are one kind of narrative.Based on a case study for the opening of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.I used the narrative analysis to analyse the content and form of the narrative texts.I find that media events have unique narrative structure patterns. Not only media events attract the participation of many media, showing a cooperating and interacting scenes, but narrative texts show unique narrative style and features. The content of media events is about the story of significant events, ceremonies and big figures. The narrative language, time, participants and perspective of the media events are all different from general news.Their unique narrative pattern is a need of ideology construction. It is the embodiment of elite's discourse in the media practice. The constructive pattern makes media event a vector of political ceremony and mainstream ideology. The following is the innovations in this paper.First, this paper introduced narrative theory into the study of media events, with a new kind of theory to analyze the mass communication phenomenon.Second,I used the classic and post-classic narrative theory not only to inspect the narrative structures of media events, simultaneously also inspect the ideology factors behind the construction of media events.I discussed media events as narrative how to represent the speaker's hidden values and ideology.
