The Ritual Communication In The Villagers' Lives

With gradual popularization of television, the traditional way of communication is being changed in the village. In modern media environment, the communication function of village ritual in the villagers' lives is frequently neglected. The demonstration of village ritual is a social interaction process of information exchange and dissemination. The village ritual, as a dissemination method, undertakes very important dissemination function of the village traditional culture and plays a key role in the villagers' lives.The thesis takes participant observation, thick description and depth conversation of ethnography as the main research methods. Through deeply tracing, inspecting and pondering the communication phenomena of wedding ceremonies in the Han Nationality community of FanGou, the author attempts to propose the concept of ritual communication and discusses its connotation, characteristics, function and development trend in the communication system.The thesis considers that the ritual is one kind of special human communication activities in essence. The demonstration of ritual has the function of constructing "information field". The ritual communication is an activity through which the ceremony expresses symbolic meanings and sends information; the ritual communication has the characteristics of symbolic significance, virtual emotion, sophisticated process, systematic pattern and so on. With the variations of village ceremony, the ritual communication would become simplified gradually; however, the ritual and television communication would coexist and affect each other in a long round; the fundamental power of variation of ritual commumcation originates from its interior harmonies and conflicts.
