The rise of the knowledge economy is a revolution, which makes information, knowledge management and utilization of the research attract much attention. Information Architecture has risen since the mid-1970s of the 20th century, and has been developing rapidly and widely spreading during the late 1990s, especially in theory and practice in the past few years. At present, there are many shortcomings such as key technical problems still exist in Knowledge Management Technology Research and Application. With the continued study of information architecture and requirements of more intelligent circumstances in Knowledge Management, we often talk about building a trend from information architecture to knowledge architecture. But the study on knowledge architecture is scarce. This paper mainly discusses the basic theory of knowledge architecture, including its concept and construction process, analysis of its core elements of and optimization for knowledge management. The first section presented the background and meaning of this study, the current research around the world and the research methods. The second section analyzed the relationship of information architecture and knowledge architecture, knowledge management and knowledge architecture, constructed Evolution Model from information architecture to knowledge architecture and IA-based knowledge architecture process model on the basis of knowledge organization, knowledge indexing, knowledge navigation and knowledge retrieval. The third section mainly discussed basic theory on core elements of knowledge architecture, including Ontology and Semantics, constructed overall model and deeply discussed the four core elements. The fourth section constructed optimization model for knowledge management, clarified the optimization of each section and used a case to analyze the optimization process. The final section summed up the main arguments, innovations and pointed out the need for further study.
