With the development of multimedia video technology, it becomes more and more important that encoding with low cost and high performance. Currently, video compression standards appear one after another, such as MPEG-4, H.264, AVS and so on. Syncretizing with computing, multimedia, communication, network and so on, the video encoding technology becomes one of study hot and has broad application prospect and research value.On the basic of actual needs, the thesis combining the popular MPEG-4 video compression standard, employing ADI Company's high performance processor BF561, transplants the XVID encoder which implements the function of video encoding. It makes out optimization scheme which aims at multimedia command, encoding arithmetic and structure.At first, the thesis introduces the development of the technology of video encode and actuality, the thoughts and characters of MPEG-4 video compression standard. Secondly the thesis introduces the advanced processor ADSP-BF561 and encoding scheme of hardware implement. Thirdly, with author's entrance function of encoder, it analyses the whole video encoder's framework and implement flow of encoder XVID, which is the most important encoder base on MPEG-4. Then, thesis introduces the realization of MPEG-4 encoder on BF561, particularizes the details of cross-compile and realization problems. At last, it completes the encoder's optimization, which enhances the coding efficiency and quality.The encoding system is implemented simplely and has high compress ratio and quality by testing. It is fit for multimedia entertainment and long-distance video supervise system. Thesis sums up the main points of research and the future work in the end.
