The writer argues that the visual communication has become the media's most dynamic way, and it has a tremendous impact on all aspects of life. In contemporary the era when consumption leads the lifestyles, visual communication and visual culture have a tremendous impact on people's consumer views.This thesis makes a philosophical analysis of the issues how visual communication impacts the consumption view and consumption style and how this style makes the counterproductive for the television media from the perspective of television. So we can know about the role and significance of symbol consumption in a rational point of view.This thesis gives a concept for"era of pictures at"at first. It shows various conditions and factors from which symbol consumption came. So we can define and analysis symbol consumption, and we can discuss the relation between television and symbol consumption. Then we can get the conclusion that the appearance and development of symbol consumption show it is reasonable, but there are some bad impacts too. From those, we can know about the visual communication, the significance of symbols conveyed through visual media and the symbol consumption ration ally.
