Universal Serial Bus (USB) is the quite new set of industries standard in the PC system. It is intended to solve the inconsistency between the growing pc outside device and the limited main board slot, improving the transfer speed and simplifying connected process with the PC .Since 2000 USB2.0 protocol proposed, USB has soon became the standard interface of computer, and also one of the standard protocol served as all computer outside device (including keyboard, mouse, monitors, printers, digital cameras, scanners, etc.).Comparing other communication interface, the most advantages of USB interface is its fast speed, feasibility, Plug and Play supporting, and automatic configuration. So USB 2.0 has been widely accepted as standard of computer to connect external devices. This thesis using FPGA devices and VHDL hardware description language to completed the design and realization of USB equipment controller. The paper first introduces USB system structure and the characteristic, including the background of USB, bus characteristic, protocol definition, transfer mode, etc. Then, the paper discussed the main content of USB2.0 protocol. After analyzing the USB Device Controller function, the thesis divides the system into seven sub-modules by the way of TOP-DOWN method. On the basis of describing the system level, further divide up functional modules. The focus of the paper is analyze the division of UTMI interface, PL and Memorizer interface and mediation.Every module is described by hardware description language Verilog HDL and simulated. At last uses FPGA to implement the design, and achieved satisfactory results.
