The object which we all the time pursue for communication work is that communication system can transmit information reliably and efficiently. During the designing of data transmission system, we should assure the dependability of transmission, descend the transmittal power and decrease the volume. Therefore, using error control technology in base-band processing unit is consumedly important.It is an important method of error control coding technology to solve the problem of transmission dependability. Viterbi decoding algorithm is a kind of maximum likelihood decoding. Because it can gain higher decoding speed and have the fixed decoding interval, Viterbi decoding is applied so widely. With the rapidly development of micro-electronic and EDA technology, FPGA and CPLD, as the represent of programmable logic device, is broadly used in digital signal processing field in virtue of its characteristic as convenient and vivid designing. We mainly explore the realization scheme of base-band processing unit of data transmission system using FPGA in this paper. With the research of the base-band processing unit and designing method of FPGA, we detailedly explore convolutional coding and Viterbi decoding, and accomplish the designing of base-band processing unit in FPGA develop platform of Altera company.We first retrospect the development history of relevant fields, and introduce the construction and rudiment of the base-band processing unit. After analyzing convolutional code principle and Viterbi algorithm, we determine to use (2,1,9) convolutional code in this designing, and give general introduction of develop platform and designing language.Then we explore the concrete realization of base-band processing unit, and bring up overall designing scheme. After defining interface signals, we introduce the FPGA actualization method of coding module and Viterbi decoding module in detail. Furthermore, we use the Matlab simulation result to analyze the capability of Viterbi decoding. Finally, we complete the FPGA designing of each module in the base-band processing unit, including parallel-to-serial conversion module, framing module, convolutional coding module in the sending end, serial to parallel conversion module, Viterbi...
