The Research Of Reports On Farmers, Agriculture And Rural Areas From Southern Weekly

Under the circumstances of constructing the harmonious society, mass media have aroused the attention to the problems related to farmers, agriculture and rural areas through objective, real and further reports. That will improve the understanding of all classes on these problems.This dissertation consists of four parts. The first part concentrates on the problems related to farmers, agriculture and rural areas and the effect of media on them, and the problem of media's limiting audience to the main groups;at the same time, the first part introduces the corresponding academic arguments and policy background. The second part is the analysis of materials selected from Southern Weekly(50 of the total 52 issues in 2004), through counting, analyzing, and studying the styles of reports, contents of reports, resources of reports, portrait of farmers, features of titles, trend of reports, utilizing of pictures, monthly circulation, related areas and the length of reports related to farmers, agriculture and rural areas on news pages to check up whether the problems are stressed by this powerful medium during the course of modernization of China. The third part is the first conclusion—from the respect of journalism, Southern Weekly's care for farmers, agriculture and rural areas is mainly reflected through the features of reports. The fourth part is the second conclusion—from the respect of communication and from the view of communicator and audience, this part analyzes Southern Weekly's care for farmers, agriculture and rural areas, and after doing research, here comes the second conclusion: it's not certain that the media who limit audience to the main groups are bound to cause the public to lessen the focus on social vulnerable groups. On the contrary, they're going to be greatly helpful in the agenda-setting on caring social vulnerable groups.
