Based on the discussion of stereoscopic theory and related experiments, this paper gives an algorithm of binocular parallax model. By analyzing several 3D mesh file formats and introducing 3D graphics API, the stereoscopic software rendering 3D models in stereo pairs is developed on the parallax barrier 3D-LCD display. Firstly the essential stereoscopic theories such as the formation of stereoscopic perception are introduced in detail, and several binocular projection models to calculate stereo pairs are given. Secondly, based on the best model a stereoscopic display system rendering the DXF, 3DS, X files in double viewports is described with OpenGL, DirectX API. Thirdly, for the better effects of depth perception and third dimension, some functions for editing and controlling are developed including viewpoint parameters setting, material changing, illumination changing, picking etc. Finally, the paper draws some conclusions and puts up some proposes about future works.
