As the development of information technology and the wider application of the new technologies for MEMS, SOC etc., the extent of system integration for machines and devices are getting higher as well as the increasing system complexity and the higher intellectualized requirements, more and more machines and devices have the demand of directly communication, then come forth the concept of M2M. With the spread of 2.5G technology application and the incoming of 3G technology, the performance of Mobile Wireless Communication Network are improving while the charge are reducing, more and more machines will add into M2M app lication. This paper will try to study how to expand or upgrade the M2M function expediently and rapidly for a general machine through Mobile Communication Technology.This paper designs and implements a kind of embedded M2M terminal platform with embedded system technology. It will enable a general machine or device to have the ability of data communication between the machine and machine or machine and man just by simple redevelopment for the platform. Thus, a gereral machine and device can expand and develop wireless remote data communication more simple and more rapidly to have the ability of implementing M2M application.The the core hardware controller of M2M Terminal Platform is selected with the popular ARM serial micro-processor chip AT91SAM7S64. The GPRS module is MC35 which is produced by Siemens. Based on open source and free embedded real time operating system FreeRTOS, LwIP protocol stack is configured and cut down, and then the GPRS wireless remote data transfer function is developed as well as SMS mode. It is designed with a serial of common hardware interface for sensors to offer the users customizing their different functions for different applications conveniently, consequently some universal and general performace are given to the M2M Terminal Platform.The total design scheme of the embedded M2M Terminal Platform,the design of the system hardware platform and the design and development process of the software platform are systematiclly analysed in this paper. Also, the characteristics and application knowledge about embedded software and hardware technology, theory and application for GPRS data transfer and the embedded realtime operating system FreeRTOS are introduced and generalized concisely.The last chapter is to discuss the development process of the M2M Terminal Platform through the appplication sample for a kind of wireless remote automobile anti-theft system. The convenient, easily extendable and all-purpose characteristics of the M2M Terminal Platform are approved by seting up a functional demo automobile anti-theft system.
