The rising of modern China, was also a process of the modernization of publishing industry. Lots of talented publishers emerged at this time; Zhang Jinglu was one of them. As a great reader, he was fond of reading widely; as a great publisher, he devoted all his energy and efforts to the publishing industry over 50 years.As a patriotic publisher, he knows his responsibllity to the culture.He pesists the high standard and high qualtty request, introducing new knowledge. And advocated that the new culture should be spread to the vast rural areas. Zhang Jinglu made a notable contribution to the New Culture Movement.With regard to the operation ideas, Zhang Jinglu had his own way of publishing. He chose to publish the short-cycled popular literature works which was more easily accepted by the public, because of their small bookstore and inadequate funds. This action not only avoided the fierce competition from the large publishing houses, but also gave full play to its own advantage. Zhang Jing Lu was also a great publisher who dared to explore new paths and put forward new ideas in his field. In the downturn of book industry, he seized the opportunity and founded Shanghai Magazine Company, which made a new history in the area of magazine industry. Thus Zhang Jinglu was called as one of pioneer and innovative publisher in the modern publish history. Although had several failed attempts, taking the Joint Operation as an example, he had never lost heart and his enthusiasm hadn't diminished at all for publishing.Meanwhile, he was also an important publisher who studied the historical materials. He published eight books about the modern China's Publishing records, which marked the beginning of the study of modern publishing industry. As a witness of the changes of Recent History of China, he published many China's modern historical records, which was in great value as historical materials and documents. And, in 50 years later, modern scholars were still took them as very important reference information for their studies.This paper focused on Zhang Jinglu's publishing practice. Through the analysis of his works, articles and historical documents, the special publishing thoughts were summed up. Combined with the present status of the publishing industry, it hopes to bring some practical significance to the reality.
