Software process and its improvement have become domestic and foreign research hotspot. However, little researches put emphasis on software testing process. A good process can not only improve the quality of software, but also can boost testing productivity as well as reduce testing cost. Therefore, the improvement of software testing process is of great importance to software testing and Software Engineering.This thesis comes from the practical project of department software testing process improvement in the company author practices at. The objective of the project is to improve software testing process thereby to raise testing productivity. In this article, the author analyzed the bottleneck of software testing process, researched method of process improvement, and finally selected 6Sigma to conduct the project of software testing process improvement. For the project, the author set up DMAICS model on the basis of 6Sigma DMAIC model. During the project implementation, the author used Minitab which is a 6Sigma statistical software for testing process statistics and analysis. In addition, the author used the analytical and decision method to analyze testing process and make improvement proposal. One year after the improvement implementation, the author analyzed and summarized the project results which indicate the objective has been achieved and exceeded. The process improvement has remarkable effect on testing productivity.On the one hand, the project this thesis described has improved the quality of testing process as well as productivity, which brings the department direct economic benefit; On the other hand, with applying techniques, methods and tools of Statistics and Management to Software Engineering, the author has broken new ground for process improvement. Not only can the practice of this thesis be used in testing process improvement, but it can also be applied to software process improvement and other processes improvement in Software Engineering.
