Nowadays, all the countries around the world are practicing the development strategy of information driven industrialization. Many countries including China all take software industry as the backbone industry in their national economy. They enthusiastically support and encourage software export. On the one hand, software production begins changing to globalization and industrialization. Software production enters into software process improvement era.With the vigorous development of the software industry, people begin to concern about the technology and the process of software production, at the same time software management and process are also included. Standardization has become the basic requirement of software products, and software process is the guarantee of the software quality. However, how to improve the software process, particularly based on the software measurement, is till at the beginning stage.Based on implementing software process improvement as the direction of instructing, software process measurement as the basis,this thesis analyzes software process improvement model-CMMI from its measurement and other aspects. It also analyzes the process area of CMMI by combining the standards of CMM and CMMI, etc., and based on Goal-Question-Metric model with researching a great deal of domestic and foreign papers about process measurement. Then this thesis builds a model of SPIM (Software Process Improvement Model) and the measurement framework which based on measuring software process. All the results are based on detailed analysis of measurement goal and metric decomposition about GQM and in CMMI. The results also aim at software process improvement. The model defines the roles, contents, activities and related supporting tools and methods for the implementation of software process metrics. Based on detailed analysis of measurement goal and metric decomposition about GQM and in CMMI, and then obtains the data model of software process measurement. At the same time it also introduces the design of software process database, the process of data collection and analysis. According to SPIM and the data model of software process measurement, this thesis analyzes the requirement management, defects management and other data which focused on 8 projects among all the collected projects in a software company. Through the measurement and analysis, this study find out that the software process is not perfect and some opinions of software process improvement are proposed.
