On Application Of RFID Technology In University Libraries

With the quickening step of digital management in libraries in information age, the traditional service of the library cannot meet readers' demands for instant and diversified information. And thus it is of great importance to apply the new technology in the library.RFID technology can provide its readers with fast and convenient self-served service which improves the working efficiency of the librarians and creates a secure environment for its readers as well. Quite a lot of developed countries have already put this technology into the circulation, collection and security management. In China much importance has been attached to RFID technology by more and more libraries. Up to 2009, another 9 university libraries have adopted the RFID technology which shows its good prospect in the library circle of China.This thesis consists of six chapter. By using theoretical, empirical and comparative analysis, this thesis firstly gives a brief account of RFID technology and its functioning principle, uses the experiences of library RFID technology both at home and abroad for a reference, then summarizes the advantages of application of RFID technology and its status quo in the library management, furthermore analyzes the causes of failure in popularizing RFID technology. Lastly, based on the present situation of Nanchang University Library, suggestions of adopting RFID technology are put forward and countermeasures are given as follows:choose UHF RPID tag of good invisibility as experimental objective; carry out Magnetic Strip+RFID mode on a smaller scale; strengthen technological reserve;contend for scientific project approval; promote cooperative research among the departments; learn the successful experience of library RFID technology both at home and abroad. This research provides some new solutions to the present problems of Nanchang University Library, which are valuable and practical reference for the future blueprint of the library.
