With the popular application of embedded systems in Chinese, the input method that embedded systems adopted is becoming more and more important. This paper makes research and design on Chinese input method based on numeric keyboard applied in embedded systems.This paper makes a simple introduction to the development test platform PXA255, as well as the process of building up the development environment, makes research on the design principle of USB drive program, transplantes USB drive program into Linux kernel, making the system be able to support numeric keyboard.This paper finds that most of the current pingyin input methods are facing such problems as the average code length is too long and the keys press times are high in the analysis and research of the current pingyin input method. Then purpose at the repeated code problem in input method, combine the characteristics of Chinese pingyin spelling, this paper presents a more effective Chinese pingyin input method--the second class pingin input method in based on USB numeric keyboard, the new method divides pingyin into two catalogues, the first catalogue and the second catalogue, it also optimizes the layout of the small keyboard, making it more adapted to the second class pingyin input method, achieving pingyin inputting within three times.Finally, this paper tests the function of the second class pingyin input method through software, according to the design principle of it. The results that come from the average calculation formulation show that the average code length of the second class pingyin input method is 3.04, this paper makes comparisons between the results and other input methods in reality and theory, the results prove that the second class pingyin input method is able to solve repeated code problem efficiently, it also decreases average code length and reduces press time of Chinese input.
