Mobile data communication is a future direction of mobile communication. Providing data services for all kinds of field using wireless technology becomes a hot in communication. The access to Internet services through GPRS makes a convergence of mobile communication and Internet into a brand-new field—Mobile Internet. This is the new orientation of mobile communication with the adaptation to the development of data services.This dissertation first introduces the history of the development of mobile data communication, then., has a deep research on GPRS technoloty which is in a leading position at present, including its advantages, system architecture, service solutions, and also analyzes PPP protocol which is a key protocol to GPRS.According to the requirements of remote access to Internet, this dissertation designs and partly realizes a mobile data equipment combining the embedded system technology, mobile communication and Internet network. It uses the latest GPRS module MC35i that is produced by Siemens and Samsung's ARM7 series micro-CPU, inside which we port uClinux and realize TCP/IP protocols. We can carry out Internet easily using this terminal, and get remote wireless data transmission. What's more, there is no need of authentication instead of mobile users SIM card, which will accelerate the speed of accession. This mobile data access terminal can be widely used in transport, traffic, bank, electric power industry and so on.
