The developing of Information Technology and Management Technology, as well as the strong market competition, become the driving forces behind the enterprise information drive transformed. It is necessary for enterprise to have a safe, reliable and expanding MIS (Management Information System). At present, most of the MIS are based on traditional client/server architecture that is so-called tow-tier architecture. To face new competition and improve management technology, we can use more advanced technology to meet the need of management. Multi-tier architecture develops the traditional client/server architecture and stands for enterprise application's future.A new MTO-Oriented production management information system which is based on Internet was built in this research, and Microsoft's distributing system developing platform Vs.Net was used successfully. This paper introduced the development of MIS, the theory and technology of production management information system and described the enterprise solution and the details of production management information system.Currently, some of the most successful MIS businesses, such as SAP, BAAN, Oracle, are trying their best to improve their production towards the multi-tier architecture from the traditional two-tier architecture. The multi-tier architecture improves the system's capability, such as capability of security and reusing. Moreover, thin-client can avoid the defects being generated when lots of clients work.
