Network simulation utilizes mathematics modeling and statistical method to simulate network behavior, in order to obtain the specific network characteristic parameters. At present, there are mainly three kinds of methods to analyze the performance of the network: Analytical method, experimental method, and simulation method. General speaking, simulation method can design the necessary network model according to the need, and find out the various kinds of characteristics of the network with fewer time and expenses under different circumstances. So network simulation has become an effective method for programming and designing network and strong tool for network research. At present, OSPF is of a widely used routing protocol, adopting the link state algorithm. In spite of the resource using of the shortest path, OSPF always forwards packets through the shortest path. As a result, the data of the network is converged into some link or some interface of the router, which will lead to the great decline of the network resource utilization ratio. We hope OSPF not only enable to find out the shortest path from the origin node to the destination node but also has the ability to allocate resource of the whole network by extending. This paper puts forward a kind of extension scheme that supports self-adaptation congestion control. The main thought of this scheme is: detecting the interface of the router real time, and adjusting the link cost of the interface automatically according to the operating position of the interface. The final result from the interface cost change leads to the alteration of the forwarding path of the packets. For the integrality of the extension, the paper still provides the concrete cost adjusting algorithms. While carrying out network simulation, we must finish two tasks mainly: first, defining the network simulation entity of OSPF routing protocol; Second, designing the interface of the entity, helping users carry on network configuration. The result of the network simulation indicates that the extended OSPF that we design supports self-adaptation congestion control.
