Now, the measurement of meter depends on manual work in our country.Thismakes the measure work low efficiency and low precision.In order to improve thespeed and precision of measure,To design an automatic measurement system of meteris the problem that meter manufacture and metrological service cry for resolve. Thedifficulty of an automatic measurement system of meter is how to read the value ofthe meter instead of manual work. With the development of image processing, usingimage processing technology into the measurement system of meter to instead ofmanual work to read the value is paid more attention to by people. This paper makes a great deal of research in the using of image recognitiontechology in the automatic measurement system of meter,and puts forward a methodof image processing appropriate to measurement system of meter.This method can beused in reading value automatically.The image recognition system based on thismethod use CCD camera to shoot the meter image instead of the eyes. For the meterof finger then the computer processes the image with a series of method such asfiltrate,segmentation and so on and recognizes the finger's angle with Houghtransform,this paper improves the Hough Transform in this field.finally compute thefinger's value by mathematic operation. For the meter of number the computerprocesses the image with a series of method such as filtrate,segmentation ,and soon.Then locates the the number character through casting shadow horizontally andvertically and makes it get to regular size. At last recognizes the number character bytemplate matching. In the automatic measurement system of meter, Image processing technology canreplaces the manual method of reading value completely.And it resolves the difficultyexisting in the automatic measurement system of meter and makes it possible torealize the automatic measurement system of meter.
