With the rapid development of computer and communications, digital video has played a more and more important role in the information society. And the high-speed digital signal processor (DSP) and very large scale integration (VLSI) make the possibilities of video compression and transmission.In this paper, the author introduces the work on the still image acquisition compression transmission and their hardware implementation. We study the 5-3 integer lifting Discrete Wavelet Transformation (DWT) in the image compression standard of JPEG2000, and give the hardware structure on the 5-3 wavelet transformation. The basic theory and the hardware implementation of the Peripheral Component Interface (PCI) are offered in this thesis. On the ground of the JPEG2000 and PCI, we introduce a hardware structure on the image acquisition system.The main contents of the paper are:I the relationship of the accurateness of calculation, complexity of calculation and hardware resources of the 5-3 DWT; II the basic theory of PCI data transmission the controlling of the host to client and the data exchanging; III configuration of the video decoder SAA7114H to implement the transformation of the analog to the digital image; IV image acquisition, compression and transmission from the host to the acquisition board by the component of Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA),Digital Signal Processor(DSP) with the controller of PCI and video decoder SAA7114H.
