With the quick development of IC industry, Digital Signal Processor (DSP) has been advanced enormously in many fields, such as manufacturing process, architecture, compiler and RTOS. Multimedia applications also greatly promote the development of DSP. The standout performance, the special architecture, powerful processing capability, as well as low power consumption, makes DSP most suitable for the future multimedia application. This is the background under which MD32 is developed.Universal Serial Bus has been a new interface standard, which has characteristics of reliable transfer, high speed, flexible, convenience and so on. Nowadays USB has been supported and used popularly. USB 1.1 specification includes two kinds of speed mode: low speed (1.5Mbps) and full speed (12Mbps). What's more, the USB protocol supports the four types of transfer: control, bulk, interrupt, and isochronous. USB not only can transfer the bulk data quickly and effectively by asynchronous pipes, but also the real-time audio and video data by isochronous pipes. All of these characteristics make USB bus interface suitable for many products, especially for media processor. Considering the application of MD32, it should be equipped with integrated USB 1.1 interface for its convenient development, also making it applicable in many situations.Firstly, the paper introduces USB 1.1 specification and windows driver model (WDM) in brief. Based on them, the USB device controller IP core is designed to be integrated in media processor and the corresponding USB driver is developed. The USB IP core have IN and OUT endpoints of bulk, interrupt and isochronous in addition to the default control endpoint. At last the core and driver are verified to be corrective and reliable in media processor hardware/software co-simulation and co-verification platform.
