In this paper, we make research on mid-point displacement algorithm which is used to generate fractal Brown motion and present a synthetical surface generation algorithm which can generate mountain terrain model of predetermined shape. The algorithm combines MPD algorithm with restraining surface to assure the effect of parts character of fBm surface and predetermined shape. We also present a method named Gauss sculpting to generate restraining surface because the picture of 2D Gauss function resembles hill. It is very simply and conveniently to use the method to control the shape and position of the hill by inputting several intuitionistic parameters. As for some special shaped mountain, we interpolate on some existed sparse points to generate its restraining surfaces. Finally, we offer a demo program of all the methods presented. Dialog boxes are designed to input parameters and options. The controllable and vivid pictures of visualized model show the efficiency of the paper.
