A Research On Competition Organising Of Large-Scale Sports Events

With the fast development of sports industry and the successful bid for 2008 Beijing Olympics, more and more national and international sports events have chosen Beijing and Shanghai as their host places. There is little systematic study and investigation on how to plan and manage these sports events more scientifically, rationally and efficiently. By means of literature study, expert interview and experiencing some large-scale sports events such as the 48th W.T.T.C., the 7th National University Sports Games, the 13th, 15th World University Table Tennis Championships, 2005-2006 I.T.T.F. Pro-tours etc, this paper researches and analyses the structure of the events; competition organizing; matters needing attention during competition preparation and planning; communication and coordination between different departments; how to draw and apply the flow charts and PERT diagram in planning and managing competition events. The author reaches the conclusion as follows:1. Competition organizing phase of large-scale events can bedivided into four stages, which are preparation stage, pre-competition stage, during-competition stage and after-competition stage. Conscientious fulfillment of tasks of the above mentioned stages is the guarantee of a well-organized competition. 2. The organizing of large-scale sports events is a systematic project which covers various aspects of society and should be integrally planned in macro and micro ways in order to carry out the whole competition smoothly. 3. The organizing work of large-scale sports events should give first priority to competition. Other departments of the event should use the manpower, material and financial resources rationally according to the requirement of competition department. A systematic operation mechanism needs to be established between competition department and other departments. A coordination department or person should specifically be appointed. The establishment of an information platform that supporting multi-medium of communication and coordination will solve the problem of asymmetry of information, incommunicability and incoordination. 4. The process of making the flow chart and PERT diagram of the events is the process of designing and planning the wholeof organizing work. By use of flow chart large-scale events can be planned integrally, coordinated orderly and obtain the objectives set before hand with less time and resources. The study and making of flow chart provide a useful reference to planning and management of large-scale sports events and social activities.
