The national entrance examination of Chinese began in 1952, till now, it has been 53 years. Reading of contemporary Chinese is a vital section of the examination, and it began to play a historical role in 1984, for, from then on, the complete articles are used in the reading exams. Many studies are carried on the reading of contemporary Chinese, there are different understandings and annotations during different periods, there are lots of achievements, but also some drawbacks. Therefore, summing up the experience is significant to the revolution of the contemporary Chinese reading.This thesis is composed of 6 chapters. In chapter 1, the author reviewed the history of the studies of the contemporary Chinese reading in the entrance examination of Chinese; Specially illustrated in chapter 2 is relation between the contemporary Chinese reading and the 3 basic principles of the national entrance examination of Chinese (ie, teaching syllabus, exam syllabus and the general outline of the exam); in chapter 3, a discussion of the form and content of the reading was conducted; in chapter 4, the author summarized the advantages and disadvantages of the subjective and objective test questions in readings, and analyzed the weakness of the contents of the reading tests; in chapter 5, a comparative study on the native language reading was made between the foreign countries and ours; in chapter 6, the author brought out his own thoughts about the reading of contemporary Chinese in the entrance exam.
